The speaker is Khaled Abou el Fadl, Omar and Azmeralda Alfi Professor of Law at UCLA Law School

Professor Abou El Fadl is a major contemporary Islamic thinker, a strong supporter of human rights, and this country’s leading authority on Islamic law.

A recent article in The New York Times Magazine singled him out as one of the two Islamic thinkers worldwide with the greatest potential to bring about constructive transformations in Muslim political theology. Among his many books is The Great Theft: Wrestling Islam From The Extremists.
