Professor Lancaster has published widely on the history and interpretation of Buddhism in Korea, China, Mongolia, Tibet, and Thailand, and he has pioneered in the application of new technology to the study of Buddhist texts and traditions.  He organized the Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative, which has nearly 1000 affiliate members around the world working to use new technology for innovations in the study of the Humanities.  He is currently producing a Digital Atlas of Chinese Religions under a grant from the Luce Foundation.  Last year he was awarded the Manhae Prize in Korea for his study of Buddhist culture.
