The Lecturer:

Richard Cizik is the President of the New Evangelical Partnership for the Common Good, a faith-based organization committed to an agenda that fosters values consistent with an open and free society.

Cizik served for ten years as Vice President for Governmental Affairs and chief spokesperson of the National Association of Evangelicals. He left that position in 2008 because he disagreed with some of the National Association’s stands on the social application of evangelicalism, but he remained strongly committed to evangelical theology. He has been a leader in bringing evangelicals, scholars, and policy-makers together in the search for common ground on such issues as climate change, civil liberties, economic justice, gun control, and national security.

He was a participant in Climate Forum 2002 at Oxford, England, which produced the “Oxford Declaration” on global warming. In 2007 he formed a group of scientists, including Nobel laureate Eric Chivian and Harvard Professor Edward O. Wilson, along with evangelical pastors and professors, to release the “Scientist and Evangelical Call to Action.” He traveled this year to Uganda to work against “Kill the Gays” legislation in that country. He has been named one of the 100 most influential people by TIME Magazine, one of the “Most Inspiring Persons of the Year” by Beliefnet, and one of America’s “most dynamic public speakers” by Science Magazine.
