September 11 and the Tradition of Jihad

The speaker is Sohail Humayun Hashmi, Alumnae Foundation Associate Professor and Chair of the International Relations Program at Mount Holyoke College.
Hashmi, a distinguished Islamic scholar, is the author of numerous articles on Islamic ethics and international relations. He is the editor or co-editor of several books, most recently Islamic Political Ethics: Civil Society, Pluralism, and Conflict (Princeton University Press, 2002). He is currently completing a book entitled The Islamic Ethics of War and Peace.
His talk is co-sponsored by the Burke Lectureship, together with the UCSD Middle East Studies Program and the Rivers of Paradise Endowment.
